This rifle is a forgotten piece of history. This rifle was built for the US expeditionary forces that fought in world war one, due to lack of M1903 production levels. Its mechanics are based on the experimental P17 rifle that the English were developing to replace the Enfield SMLE, but the English ended the project and The US
took its design and modified it to fire the 30.06 cartridge. The US army after world war one ended all Eddystone production and sold or gave away most of them, largely due to the rifles English origins. The army chose the M1903 as its standard battle rifle. I can testify that the Eddystone design is excellent, Iv taken mine out to 300 yards and it still has deadly accuracy. Eddystone M1917 30.06 |
I have decided to find just how accurate the lee enfield is, what grouping can the Enfield really achieve at various distances? how does the accuracy change over distance? what exactly is needed to achieve high levels of accuracy? all these questions will be answered over the 3 part series in which I will find out just how accuarate the enfield can be.
