I have done a perfect Tai Otoshi and he landed perfectly on his back. In Judo the match would have been over at that point because it was an Ippon Technique.
After I took him down he rolled on my back and since he was taller he lock his feet and stalled and killed time for 3:30 minutes.
I believe may be there is a need to make some changes so if some body is stalling and relaxing and not doing any thing. Also since I have initiated the technique and as a result of my take down he end up on my back.
As you can see in the video the ref give him 2 points after he ends up in my back and then another 4 points after I try to get up with him on my back to shake him off! So I don't understand why he got another 4 points there. Then I broke his guard twice toward the end of the fight and never got any points. So pretty much I have did every thing and lost. He just set on my back because of his long legs, lock on me, been taller than me. The final results were 6-0. I have got zero points for doing every thing.
Other than that I really enjoyed my time and meeting people from other schools. May be since the matches start standing up; NAGA adopt some of Judo rules. During the matches the only take down I saw was double or one leg take downs like wrestlers. Nobody really perform a real throw like what you see in my fight and may be by giving more point for a real throw or take down we encourage fighters to learn more take down techniques and make the sport more beautiful.
Thanks,
I like to thank Mr. Kollar for sending me an e-mail and explaining the BJJ rules. Also the ref ('Richard Graeff') for giving me a courtesy call so I won't get discourage and keep fighting. Below you see Mr. Kopplar e-mail:
"Thomas,
Thanks for sending the links. I watched them and have to help you better understand the BJJ rules that NAGA uses. While you would be correct if this were a judo match, we do not use judo rules. We are very clear about in order to score take down points you must take the person down, end up on top for 3 full seconds. Since you did not get on top or stay on top for 3 seconds you did not receive any points which via BJJ rules is correct.
Also your opponent correctly received 2 points for the take down because he ended on top and also another 4 points for rear mount with hooks in which was also correct.
Attached is a link to the CBJJ website with details on all the rules and a copy of the NAGA rules which also clearly states the 3 second rules.
Sorry for the confusion glad to you still had fun and I hope to see you at the next show.
